It has been brought to my attention that this statement is misleading. I apologize. I am leaving it up instead of changing it, and instead explaining my intentions here. I don't want to hide my mistake, so it will remain here on this website. I am not currently a volunteer reporter for Real Change. I wrote this quickly and have not personally reread this page in quite some time. However, it recently was expressed to me that Timothy Harris is not comfortable with my use of this terminology.

I apologize for misrepresenting my work with Real Change. I was a student intern at Real Change, probably 9 or so years ago... I still need to look this up. I was a UW student and sought out Real Change as a good place to intern. I asked Timothy Harris if he would be open to having an intern, and he accepted. As I recall I received a good grade from my instructor at UW who sponsored the Internship, and will try and see if there is any record of this interaction available still to support or contradict this claim. Possibly this could have been a pass fail course, and it is also quite possible that I somehow missed that Timothy Harris was unsatisfied with my performance as an intern. For he's definitely upset that I called myself a volunteer reporter.

Just for the record I wrote two articles for Real Change, as an Intern, not a volunteer reporter:

http://www.realchangenews.org/pastarticles/features/articles/fea_alive_pride.html

The other article, "Mean Sweeps" about the criminalization of homelessness, seems to be missing from Real Change's website. However, I will scan it in and post it if necessary.

As I reread that statement, I realize it has the affect of portraying an ongoing relationship with Real Change, which I do not have. This was not my intention. My intention was instead to say that I have a history of grassroots type of activism. That I have spoken out consistently for those who need society's help, and that I learned the basics of journalism from my Internship from Real Change. I was not trying to say that I was a professional reporter, I was not trying to mislead the public. To Timothy Harris, and Volunteer Real Change Reporters I apologize. I should have stated that I paid tuition to go to Real Change, via a class at UW, in order to learn something about how to be a Journalist (I thought it was a great learning experience). I thought Timothy Harris was a class act, a good teacher, and believed that it was well worth my money.

But I misstated a fact, and for that I apologize.

Sincerely,

Gentry Lange
